The 6th Annual St. Albans Founders Day on Olde Main Street was held on Saturday, May 14, 2011 from 10 - 4 pm. Sponsored by the St. Albans Founder's Day Committee and the St. Albans Historical Society, this event gets better each year.
It's purpose is to celebrate the history of St. Albans and promote the businesses on Main Street, to involve the youth in becoming aware of the fascinating story lived and told right here in our town and it is the opportunity for everyone to learn a little more about the history of the town. The Opening Parade began at 10 am and ended on Main Steet.
Entertainment was: "History Alive" presenter (Gen. Stonewall Jackson), the St. Albans School of Dance, the Presby Pickers, the Kanawha Valley Pipe and Drum Corp, and other music groups. Numerous Food Booths and Craft Booths added to the excitement. The Albans Arts Center was showing "The History of St. Albans" video throughout the day beginning at noon. The Mariogold Express train gave children rides around the Loop.
This year's event focused on the Civil War in St. Albans and there were several Civil War re-enactors. A Historic Walking Tour brochure has been prepared telling about the six pre-Civil War homes and one church still standing in town.
There was also a memorial service by The Sons of Confederate Volunteers, at Teays Hill Cemetery, to see the dedication of markers for the seven Confederate soldiers from St. Albans.
There was also a Mrs, Teen and Little Miss WV Beauty Pagent being held that day at Gateway Church of Christ on B St. , a Rotary Club Pancake Breakfast and Ann Jarvis re-enactor at the Library that day
